BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT
Protecting our community through excellence in service

MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF

Picture of Fire Chief Larry Huhn

Welcome to the City of Bend Fire and Rescue!  On June 16 of this year I assumed the duties of Fire Chief after over twenty five years with the department.  I am excited and humbled to be offered the opportunity to be chosen as the leader of such a fine organization.   The men and women of this department represent the finest of the fire service in the western United States.

I want to thank my predecessor and mentor, Fire Chief Larry Langston (retired), for his vision, leadership, and friendship during his fourteen year tenure with this department.   Under Chief Langston's leadership we accomplished great things for the community.  We replaced aging and failing equipment, relocated and modernized our stations, and added much needed staff, among many other accomplishments.

The future, no doubt, holds many new and different challenges for the department.  The furious pace of growth has subsided, for now; we will use this time to catch our breath and plan for the future needs of the community.  We will continue to work toward improved service delivery while looking for greater efficiencies.

Our core values and mission will not change during this time of transition.  The members of this department will continue to embrace the mission of "protecting our community through excellence in service".  In the future we will work to help the community understand and know us better.  We look forward to sharing, with you, our goals and future plans to meet the needs of the community.

Thanks to everyone for their overwhelming support, it has been very much appreciated.

Larry E. Huhn
