About Michael Johnston:

 

Retired Lt. Michael Johnston served over thirty years with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.  Prior to that, he was employed by the Oregon State Police.  Michael has over 3,500 hours of training through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.  He was the lead instructor for the Deschutes County Sheriff Department's Emergency Vehicle Operations Class training program.  Michael was instrumental in obtaining the original Skidcar training device and developing the original Skidcar Program for Deschutes County in 1998.

 

In retirement, Michael continues to serve as a Senior Emergency Vehicle Operation Class instructor for the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training at the Oregon Police Academy in Salem, Oregon.  He is one of the senior training staff for Basic Police Academy Emergency Vehicle Operations Training classes.

 

Michael has the distinction of being one of only 16 people in the state of Oregon certified by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training to instruct the Pursuit Intervention Technique Maneuver.  He holds Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, Middle Management, and Executive Police Certifications through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
