The La Pine Station of the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office serves the southern portion of Deschutes County. One secretary, one School Resource Deputy, six patrol Deputies, one Detective and one Sergeant staff this station. These deputies have a patrol area of approximately 1000 square miles. Most of this area is property owned by the United States Forest Service or the Bureau of Land Management. The privately owned land is approximately 84 square miles. Most of the deputys' patrol time is spent in and around the privately owned land. An estimated 15,000 people live in this area.
