Deschutes County Administrator Dave Kanner is the Chief Administrative Officer. He is responsible for the administration and management of the County and its service districts and works under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners.

The County Administrator has specific authority to perform all day-to-day functions necessary for the administration and management of County affairs. The County's Administrator provides direction to others concerning budget and the operation and maintenance of the personnel system.

Kanner provides direction to the appointed department heads and is the first point of contact with elected County officials. He controls and supervises all administrative departments including Veterans' Services, Risk Management, Personnel, Internal Auditing, Public Communications and Building and Maintenance Services.
