Dennis Luke
DESCHUTES COUNTY, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Dennis Luke joined Deschutes County government in January 1999 after serving three terms as the State Representative from District 54. His extensive legislative involvement included chairing the House Education Committee in 1995 and 1997 and chairing the Human Resources Committee in 1995. He was also a member of the House Natural Resources Committee in 1993, 1995, and 1997 and the Children and Family Committee in 1997. Luke is past Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
Dennis owned Luke Builders, Inc. in Bend for over 35 years, building single-family and commercial buildings. He's served as the Central Oregon Builders' Association president, and president of the Oregon State Home Builders' Association. In 1991, he was selected as Oregon's Builder of the Year. He has also served on the Bend Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors.
Dennis is an Oregon State University graduate and holds a Masters in Public Administration from Portland State University.
Dennis currently serves as a Director of the National Guard's Youth Challenge Advisory Committee, President of the Youth Foundation, and Board member of the Deschutes United Way Committee.
As a Deschutes County Commissioner, Dennis has served as Budget Officer, Chair and Vice-Chair; he is active with all County Departments but works closely with Solid Waste, the District Attorney’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office, the Courts and the Community Development Department.
Dennis’ committee appointments include the Central Oregon Area Commission on Transportation, the Legislature, and the Bend Metropolitan Planning Organization. Dennis serves on the Legislative Committee for the Association of Oregon Counties along with various AOC committees.
Dennis and his wife Joanne raised two sons, Matthew, who is now deceased; and Brian, who is a U.S. Naval Commander. Brian and his wife, Heather have two sons, Austin and Carson, and daughter Maddie.
Dennis' interests and hobbies include woodworking, golfing, fishing, gardening and listening to good music.
